Holiday homes in Denmark

Denmark is by far the most beautiful holiday country in Europe. Danes, the citizens of Denmark, are generally well educated, well informed, very easygoing and very informal. This will give the Danes a relaxed and often humorous look at life. The land is ideal for relaxing family vacations. Greenwood Vacation Homes has several large bungalows with enough room for the entire family.

Denmark consists of the Jutland peninsula (to the north of Germany) and approximately 407 islands, of which only about 79 are inhabited. The largest and most densely populated are Zealand of which Copenhagen is the capital, the North Jutland and Funen island. The islands are often connected by remarkable bridges. The South of Sweden is still the most beautiful island of Bornholm with its forests, beaches and historic churches. Here you can experience a truly Mediterranean feel. Many of our beautiful Denmark holiday homes will give you this authentic feeling only Jutland can give you.

The Baltic Sea is among the most important regions in the world where it can be navigated by the trade route from Scandinavia to Central Europe. The coastline of Denmark is more than 7000 km long and no place is more than 52 km from the coast.

Jutland holiday homes

The Jutland peninsula is divided into two parts. The southern part belongs to Germany, the northern section is part of Denmark. In Denmark, a distinction is made in North Jutland (with the island L%uFFFDs%uFFFD), Central Jutland and South Jutland. Some of the important cities are Aalborg, Aarhus, Flensburg, Horsens, Viborg and Veijle. The municipality Veijle Jelling is the place where different rune stones and burial mounds recall the days when Christians fought the Vikings in the 10th century. Jelling was for many years the home of Danish kings. These kings have two huge mounds and two stones with runes left. There is also a stone church that was entirely made of wood.

Seeland

Sealand is the largest island of Denmark. The Great Belt Bridge and the Oresund Bridge connect Sweden and the island of Funen. On the island there are places like Copenhagen, Helsinger, Hillered, Nestved, Roskilde and Slagelseb. Seeland Island houses some beautiful historic buildings and perfect family Danish holiday homes.

The island was already inhabited in the 9th century. In Roskilde, you will find the first Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. The city was the capital of Denmark until 1400. The Cathedral of Roskilde is the final resting place for many of the Danish kings and queens who ruled Denmark from the Middle Ages.

In Roskilde you can also visit the Viking Ship Museum with more than five large Viking ships dating from the 11th century. In the museum you can learn about the culture and lifestyle of the Vikings. Kronborg castle at Elsinore is the most famous castle in Denmark. This building was the home of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, in the drama of Shakespeare. In the courtyard, the play is often performed. In Slagelse you can see the remains of the once mighty castle Trelleborg and visit homes in the same museum. The museum is an open-air museum with remains and information on the old Nordic culture. Especially the time of the Vikings.

Fyn

East of the island of Funen Jutland Jutland is separated by the Little Belt and the Great Belt Zealand, but has now bridges and tunnels connecting the islands. Fyn is also called the Garden of Denmark, because of the beautiful woods and fields. Nature is a beautiful area for cycling and walks. The highest point is 131 meters, Frobjerg Bavnehj.

The largest city on Funen is Odense, in the middle of the island. Odense is the birthplace of the famous fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen. The other large towns lie just along the coast: Kerteminde, Nyborg, Svendborg, FAborg, Assens, Middelfart and arches. On Funen there are several beautiful castles, like Castle Egeskov, and the Horne Hdveholm church and castle.
